Newcastle Smoke Alarm Services Story

NSW has updated its regulations regarding smoke alarm installation and maintenance. From 23 March 2020, NSW landlords and agents need to ensure that smoke alarms installed in rented properties are in working order. Newcastle Smoke Alarm Services (NSAS for short) is a new business dedicated to meeting this new need for fire safety equipment.

Servicing both the real estate industry as well as private homeowners in the Newcastle region, NSAS aims to take some of the stress out of complying to these new requirements. I collaborated with owner/operator Jaimie Whitton to develop a new logo and identity for the brand.

The logomark combines a house icon with three overarching curved lines. These are a nod to a pattern used in many smoke alarms as well as pulsing radar lines. Additionally, I like to think these can be seen as a rainbow, or arms of safety over the home, although that might just be me. We chose a colour scheme of a pastel red, dark charcoal and light grey to convey a safety and authoritative tone to the mark. A clean Sans-Serif font ensures readability for all copy.

For proposed outward facing brand material, we have pitched a campaign with happy/relaxed subjects front and centre. This is hopefully inspiring thoughts of what other, more important things time could be spent on – leave this stuff to NSAS.

This work was undertaken during my employment at Printnova.
